Organized by Sandrine Pelissier and Sophie Babeanu
We are passionate about making art accessible. We believe that if you can write, you can draw. Every year we organize a Culture Days event that will reveal the artist in you in a fun and relaxed environment.
Everybody is an artist!
We truly believe that art is for everyone and we designed a fun activity that will have you make a unique picture, easily and in no time. All you have to do is relax and let your imagination do all the work.
This activity is suitable for kids all ages as well as for adults, even the adults who could not draw to save their life.
If you like the picture you made, Sophie and Sandrine will help you upload it to the Big Picture Art Project, and online collective art project where artists from everywhere in the world are sharing drawings and stories.
Culture days are coming up and I will host and activity in my studio with Art therapist and Big Picture co-founder Sophie Babeanu:
Everyone can draw for the Big Picture Art Project.
September 30th and October 1st 10 am to 4 pm
The big picture is a collective art project where people in our local area and around the world are collaborating to create a big mosaic picture from thousands of drawings. You want to participate in the project and:
– The idea of drawing sends chills down your spine? – You have an interesting story to share? – You could not use a computer if your life depended on it? – What on earth is a scanner? – Last time you drew something was in elementary school – Your dog ate your drawing – You feel like having a conversation with two heavily french accented ladies.
Come and see us, we can help !
Sandrine and Sophie will show you some simple drawing techniques: line contour drawing, line and cross hatching, cross contour drawing, scumbling technique, drawing with twigs. You will also have the chance to try for yourself some fun techniques like continuous drawing, blind continuous drawing, and drawing with your non dominant hand.
Supplies will be provided.

And here are the self portraits: (Click on any picture to see a larger version)
We have an exciting activity coming up for Culture Days
This year again, we invite you to participate in an exciting activity for Culture Days!
It is going to be fun, everyone can do it, kids will love it and it will take you about 10-30 minutes.
No painting or drawing skills required, all you need to know is to look into a mirror and trace!
You will make a selfie, the old fashion way 🙂 We will use a mirror and a simple print system. Your self portrait will be scanned and you can take it home, and why not use it as your new profile picture?
This activity will be facilitated by art therapist Sophie Babeanu and visual Artist Sandrine Pelissier
We scanned our collective artwork and are happy to announce that it is now available on Fine Art America. You can browse a variety of formats from canvas to bags and even cell phone cases and more. Check it out on Fine Art America here. All profits will go to the Harvest project, a North Vancouver local charity and food bank.
Sorry, the tree is now full and we can’t take any more participants in the project. If you are interested in getting news from us, we will probably work on another participate project next year for culture Days, please fill out the form here

Voice recording
Imagine…..
For a moment…..
That you are a tree, a beautiful, magnificent tree with deep roots and soaring branches.
You live in a forest surrounded by other trees, birds, animals and lush plants.
On the inside, you are layered from a strong core unto your bark. Each year passing by you have grown a layer and became taller, wider and stronger.
If we could see inside that tree, we would be able to tell what those years have been like.
Now, we are inviting you to see those layers, this core, and to listen to them.
What do they have to say? What words of wisdom do they have to share?
Maybe you would you like to tell them something? What do you want to share with your inner tree?
Now write those words, this sentence on the paper we gave you and be ready to share it on the final artwork. You can write in English or any other languages.
Thank you.
Help us spread the word, share with your friends!
The tree is now full, thank you to all our participants. If you want to be updated on our upcoming participative Arts project, please fill out the form here.
