The Ferry Building Gallery is pleased to present Tonality, a mixed-media exhibition that showcases artwork by three local artists – Lesley MacGregor, Sandrine Pelissier and Broderick Wong.
Lesley MacGregor was born in Victoria and currently lives and works in West Vancouver. Growing up with a father who was an art education professor, MacGregor always made art a part of her life. Her interest in fine art photography began in 2012. Her focus has been largely in black-and-white or tonally minimal, primarily centred on landscapes and architecture. She finds that working in black and white demands that light, shadow and tone take centre stage in her compositions, and strips these things down to their elements. MacGregor has exhibited in the Lower Mainland and the US, and her photography has won international awards.
Sandrine Pelissier is originally from France and has been living in North Vancouver for the past 20 years. Her work has been collected and exhibited extensively both in Canada and internationally. Her paintings have been published in books and magazines, and she has written two art instruction books. She is an active member of the local arts community. She co-founded the North Shore Art Crawl and sits on the board of the North Vancouver Arts Council, among many other activities. With her artwork, Pelissier hopes to offer an alternative to the typical representation of women in art by celebrating true beauty and diversity of real bodies of all ages and shapes.
Broderick Wong began his artistic journey in Manila, Philippines by completing a degree in marketing and choosing a career as a learning and development trainer. His artistic studying evolved into two skill-sets – graphite portraiture and then watercolours. Painting has allowed Wong to be in the moment, and he sees a parallel to life in knowing when to take control and when to let go. His mission is to re-introduce people to water and colour, and get them excited about the possibilities. The paintings included in this exhibition are an extension of his No Payne’s No Gains series, in which he used just one tube of Payne’s gray pigment.
Admission to the gallery is free.
