The Bluebeard narrative- Limited edition of 15

In this series, I want to revisit traditional narratives about womanhood with a feminist perspective. The first of the series is Cinderella, this is the second one, Bluebeard,

In the Bluebeard tale, Jeanne, his new young wife is somewhat naive and doesn’t see her new husband’s true personality until he goes on a trip asking her not to open a room. This room and the key that opens it represent knowledge: she has the choice of keeping on living as a naive young woman or facing the truth. Once she opens the room she is in shock to discover that her husband is a serial killer. She tries unsuccessfully to hide this discovery from him when he comes back from travelling but the key she used keeps bleeding. This can be seen as the symbol of what is know that can’t now be unknown, she can’t ignore the truth anymore.

In this linoprint, Jeanne has a piece of clothing or fabric preventing her from seeing, that she is in the process of taking off, accessing knowledge and making the key bleed.
