Sandrine Pelissier : Artist and ceramic maker creating functional objects inspired by nature and drawing

Sandrine Pelissier is a Canadian ceramic artist, painter, and author originally from France and based in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
Her ceramic work is rooted in a minimalist aesthetic inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian design. Through wheel-thrown, hand-built, and slip-cast pottery, she creates functional objects that celebrate simple forms, organic textures, and the perfectly imperfect nature of handmade work. Many pieces feature exposed clay, subtle surface variations, and a quiet connection to the natural world.
Across her ceramics, paintings, and printmaking, Sandrine explores the rhythm of lines, the language of patterns, and the dialogue between structure and spontaneity. Her work often balances carefully considered design with the asymmetry and unpredictability that give handmade objects their character.
Before turning her focus to ceramics, Sandrine established an international reputation as a painter and mixed-media artist. Her paintings have been widely exhibited and collected in Canada and abroad, and have been featured in numerous books and magazines. Her work is also part of the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Art Rental & Sales Program.
Sandrine is the author of several popular art instruction books and shares her creative process through her long-running blog, PaintingDemos.com, which reaches thousands of artists each month. She is also a dedicated arts educator, co-founder of the North Shore Art Crawl, and leader of a weekly life drawing group. Through both her artwork and teaching, she seeks to encourage creativity as a meaningful way to connect with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us.
